White Water Trip on the Kennebec River, ME

Troop 12 Scouts and Parents,
The troop annually tries to hold a summer high adventure trip. In past years it's been the likes of Philmont, Seabase, hiking the Long Trail…. This year we are planning a White Water Rafting weekend on the Kennebec River in Maine. The plan is to leave early Saturday morning Aug. 6th, raft on Sunday Aug. 7th and return Monday afternoon Aug. 8th. The rafting company offers camping along with other fun activities to include swimming, biking (bikes included), volleyball, hiking and fishing. We are planning to rent a 12-15 person passenger van so the scouts can intermingle on the 4-5 hour drive North.
The wreath sales and pancake breakfast fund raising is going to help defray this substantially more expensive trip than our normal trips.
The trip costs $180.00/participant, but for the first 16 deposit paying members the troop will subsidize half. Which means it will now cost only $90.00/participant. Part of scouting is being Thrifty. So for the troop to not lose money we are putting a payment schedule with penalties. It's going to work like this:
Cost of Trip .. $180.00
Troop Subsidy -$90.00
Scout Cost...... $90.00*
* For the first 16 participants who sign up and pay a $45.00 non-refundable deposit by May 2nd. Balance due by July 2nd. Participants who are late in any payment will lose the early bird discount of $45.00 making their total $135.00.
If we end up with more than 16 percipients those additional participants will be only subsidized $45.00 so their total cost will be $135.00.
This is going to be a great trip. Lots of fun and adventures, but not it is not for the wishy washy or non-committal scouts. It is in a way a thank you and an example of how all our hard fund raising work is used to promote great adventures and test our scouting skills.
Scouts talk it over with your parents. Decide if you can make the commitment. If so fill out the attached form and bring in your $45.00 deposit on or before May 2nd.
